Iran hanged two men on Saturday for allegedly killing a member of the country’s military during nationwide protests. Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini were declared guilty of “corruption on earth” for allegedly being involved in the death of the paramilitary officer during the protests which were triggered following the death of 22-year-old Iranian woman Mahsa Amini on September 16.
As per reports, the two men who were executed on Saturday were convicted of killing Basij paramilitary force militia’s member. In the same case, three others were also imprisoned for life and 11 more received jail sentences.
According to statement published by official Iranian state media IRNA, the judiciary declared both Karami and Hosseini as the “principle perpetrators” of the crime that killed the military member named, Ruhollah Ajamian.

It is to mention that with the two men who were hanged on Saturday, the total executions in the country have mounted to four in the aftermath of nationwide unrest over Amini’s death. The 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini died while in custody of police. She was arrested by the country’s morality police which has imposed a mandatory dress code.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed police official Ahmad Reza Radan as new national police commander, as per state media reports. Radan was also under US sanctions in 2010 for violations of human rights. He has been known to enforce strict dress code for women while he held police positions.
