The history of International Women's Day dates back to March 19, 1911, when it was celebrated for the first time in the USA and some European countries. German activist Clara Zetkin proposed the idea of an annual International Women's Day celebration in 1910, and numerous nations celebrated it for the first time in 1911.

International Women's Day's origins can be found in the early 1900s, when labour movements voiced their disapproval of subpar working conditions brought on by fast industrialization.

The concept came about as a result of the 1908 labour movement, in which numerous women who worked in the apparel industry marched through the streets of New York.

The cause was their desire for voting rights, better pay and fewer hours of work, and gender equality. The Socialist Party of the United States of America was the organization behind this movement.
