Intel emerged as the worst-performing stock in the S&P 500 during the fourth quarter of 2026, as the share price had reportedly fallen by 57%, according to prediction market platform Kalshi. This latest development showed signs. The sharp decline showed the concerns that were growing among the investors about the chipmaker's business outlook. It also reflected concerns regarding manufacturing challenges and efforts to revive its foundry operations. In the third-quarter, Intel had although reported better-than-expected earnings. But, the weaker fourth-quarter forecast had triggered a major selloff. The company's struggles have also led to some other factors as well.

What exactly happened?

Kalshi, the prediction market platform, had highlighted Intel's 57% decline in Q4. It also noted that Intel's performance was considerably weaker than that of other big semiconductor companies.

Why did the stock fall so sharply?

The recent development about Intel's latest quarterly results have raised concerns among investors.

According to media reports, Intel's client computing business has faced pressure from a weakening demand of PC. The price of memory is also rising. This factor is making computers more expensive and hence affecting the demand.

Media reports also suggest that manufacturing constraints may have also affected Intel's ability to meet the demand.

It was also estimated that a two-week shutdown at its Fab 28 facility in Israel is expected to reduce quarterly revenue.

Notably, packaging substrate shortages have also added to the company's supply constraints.

The latest share-price decline has raised several questions. Intel has been reportedly trying to rebuild its semiconductor manufacturing business. It has also reportedly invested in manufacturing capacity. But, investors may be reportedly concerned if these will help generate the returns that were expected.
