Instagram has rolled out a series of engaging updates, including a repost feature for Reels and posts, a 'Friends' tab to track friend interactions with Reels, and a real-time Live Map for location-based content discovery. These enhancements aim t...

So, what’s new? Along with the repost feature, the platform introduced a Friends tab within Reels that shows you what your circle is up to. For a more real-time feel, a Live Map now shows you where your friends and creators are posting, similar to Snap Map but with an Instagram twist.

How does the new reposting feature work?
Previously, if you wanted to share someone else's content on Instagram, you had to send it via DMs or temporarily post it to your Story. However, this update flips the script.
Users can now repost any public Reel or feed post directly to their feed; it will appear exactly like a regular post, but with full credit to the original creator. Consider it Instagram's version of retweeting.
There's even a "Reposts" tab on your profile that contains all of your reshared content. It's ideal for people who enjoy curating their favorite videos, aesthetic photos, or simply things they want to highlight.
Tap the repost icon (two arrows forming a square) below the post.
If you want, you can add a caption or note, it's completely optional.
Tap the repost button, and you're done. It will appear in your followers' feeds and in the Reposts tab.
What exactly is Instagram's Friends tab in Reels about?
Instagram is also improving users' ability to stay connected with close friends. The new Friends tab in Reels lets you see which Reels your friends have liked, commented on, or shared. It adds a new layer of social discovery, making it easier to stay in touch with what your inner circle finds entertaining or interesting.
Rather than just scrolling through Reels, this allows you to interact with content that is already popular with people you know, making your feed feel more personalized.

What's up with the new Live Map?
Another experimental but exciting feature is Instagram's Live Map, which shows you where your friends and favorite creators are posting in real time. Consider it Instagram's version of Snapchat Map, but integrated into the app's direct message interface.
It is currently only available in the United States, but a global release is reportedly on the way. Don't worry, Instagram says it has built-in privacy controls so you can control how visible your location is.
These updates demonstrate that Instagram is serious about keeping users engaged by improving how content is shared and discovered. Whether you're resharing a Reel, checking out what your friends are watching, or discovering real-time content hotspots, Instagram has just made things a lot more social.
