Cheryl Hines, 59, says there is no big problem in her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 71, and confirmed she has moved from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C.—in the couple’s new $4.4 million house—-to be with him while he works for President Donald Trump’s administration.

Hines is famous for Curb Your Enthusiasm and has been in the middle of big gossip for months after Kennedy’s sexting scandal with 31-year-old journalist Olivia Nuzzi. Some unnamed sources claimed Hines could not trust Kennedy anymore and even “ordered” him to move her to D.C. because she feared his “lust demons” could hurt their marriage, as per the Wall Street Journal report.

Rumors grew after Kennedy bought a $4.4 million townhouse in D.C., and insiders told Page Six it was to make Hines happy and “mend their marital bridges”. In her WSJ interview, Hines said she is living in D.C. but still spends time at their $6.6 million Brentwood, California, house, which they bought in 2021.

Hines says marriage is strong despite rumors

Hines would not comment directly on the sexting story but said there is “no point” in answering every rumor or headline because she and Kennedy “talk about everything” and “trust each other”. She called Kennedy her “really good friend” and said that is how they handle everything together, according to the report by Wall Street Journal.

On Instagram for their 11th anniversary, Hines posted a photo with Kennedy saying: “Happy anniversary, Bobby. We’ve had 11 amazing years together and I can’t wait to see what the next eleven will bring. I love you”. She will write more about their marriage in her new memoir Unscripted, coming out November 11, and says readers will see that “whatever we’ve been through is behind us”.

Hines supports Kennedy’s health campaign

Hines has also been criticized for strongly supporting her husband, especially because his work as Trump’s Health and Human Services secretary has caused heated arguments among health experts and voters. She admits she doesn’t agree with all of Kennedy’s ideas and even sneaks potato chips when he is not around, but says she is “very connected” to his Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) campaign, as stated by Wall Street Journal.

Hines says MAHA is about being mindful of what goes into food and drinks and educating people about it, and she could not think of anything in it she disagrees with. Their Georgetown townhouse has four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, and Kennedy bought it in April for over $400,000 less than the $4.85 million asking price.

Photos from WSJ show the home decorated with unique art, including a large portrait of a young Kennedy with a bird of prey on his hand, showing his love for falconry. Another photo shows Hines sitting on a couch in front of a wall covered with framed artworks, a portrait of her, and family photos of different Kennedy relatives alongside old newspaper clippings about their achievements, as mentioned by the Wall Street Journal report.

Family criticism and past approval

The display suggests Kennedy is proud of his family history, even though some of the harshest criticism against him and Hines has come from his own relatives. Caroline Kennedy called her cousin a “predator,” which Hines said made her upset and angry because she “didn’t understand” why that word was used.

Hines said Caroline “clearly wanted to use a word that would strike people” but it didn’t make sense to her. Kennedy’s nephew Jack Schlossberg posted a strong Instagram video telling Hines to “call up the family of a child who died of measles and say sorry”. Hines said she would not reply to him because “anything I say, he’s going to be excited that someone’s talking about him” and she doesn’t understand “what’s going on with him”, as per the Wall Street Journal.

When Hines and Kennedy started dating in 2011, she quickly got along with the extended Kennedy family after passing a “hazing ritual” during her first visit to their Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, compound. The ritual was jumping from the family sailboat into the water, then swimming to a nearby jetty while facing waves and jellyfish, as stated in the reports.

Kennedy’s oldest daughter from his first marriage, Kick Kennedy, said the family has “a lot of scary fish and creatures and people and rituals” and she is protective of anyone joining it because it even scares her. Kick said Hines “could hold her own” in that tough environment.

Hines and Kennedy may not be going to family gatherings now, but they still keep close ties to Hyannis Port, buying their own home there in 2022 for $2.5 million. Hines said she has found many supporters in Los Angeles, with people approaching her to praise Kennedy’s work. Her sister Rebecca also defends her, asking why anyone would “pick on her” and saying Hines “hasn’t done anything except refuse to leave her husband”, as per Wall Street Journal report.
