Americans seek to leave the country
Different surveys have found that US citizens are preparing to leave their country and are acquiring dual citizenship and buying off shore properties, ahead of the US Presidential Election in November. There is an increasing trend among those who can afford to move out expressing their willingness to leave the US. This has been prompted by a political culture that threatens violence and revenge against opponents. There are other reasons too. Trump has warned of retribution against his political opponents if he wins the election and a bloodbath if he loses, reminiscent of the attack on the Capitol Hill in 2020.

Reasons:

The foremost reason is the upcoming presidential election. Many pointed out that Trump’s divisive politics and his violent nature have disturbed many peace-loving people. His views on the LGBTIQA community, abortion and immigration have created fear in the minds of the people. Many also point out that Biden’s tenure has been lackluster and they aren’t interested in staying in the country if he were to return as the President of the US.

Trump has threatened to imprison his opponents. This is something that was also pointed out by Vice-President Kamala Harris who said that Trump would weaponize the Department of Justice and crack down on his political opponents.

While many leave the country to escape harsh taxes, this time around it has been political factors that are dominating the debate. Remote work opportunities have only encouraged the people to take a decision and leave.

Survey:

According to a poll conducted by the Monmouth University in March, 34% of the US citizens expressed their interest to settle abroad if given a chance. Many of the respondents also wanted to avoid getting illegally detained. Another survey by the Publisher International Living found that 65% of 2700 respondents stated that they are firming up plans at a quicker pace to leave the country due to the vitiated political climate.
