In this battleground state, Kamala Harris has lead over Trump as per this new poll

According to a new poll, Kamala Harris enjoys a slim, two-point advantage over Donald Trump in a key battleground leading into the 2024 election.

A Quinnipiac poll found Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump by two points with 49 percent to the former president's 47 percent in the battleground state of North Carolina. It marks a flip-flop of Trump's earlier advantage.

With Harris and Trump trading small leads, polls have differed on the state, and ahead of the 2024 election, North Carolina is shaping up to be a major battleground.

Tight Competitive Race in Key Swing State

North Carolina has become very competitive lately as the state shifts to the left. Polling averages of the two are almost a dead heat with Harris the newcomer and closing the gap as the electorate of educated voters expands.

Historically Democratic voters in the "Research Triangle" have been most responsible for Harris's recent success.

Impact of North Carolina Voter Trends

The Cook Political Report shifted North Carolina from "lean Republican" to "toss-up". Harris sits at a 37% chance of winning the state, and if she does, she has a 94.1% chance of winning the presidency, Nate Silver says from his analysis.

The competition is so close that the importance of the state even enhances its role in determining the outcome of the election.

Demographic Changes Favor Harris

Change in North Carolina to the left is due to an influx of educated voters in that state, mostly the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.

Continued expansion around that region and its branding as a haven for researchers and high-tech industries gives an ideal terrain for the Democratic base. Voters having degrees in higher education strengthen Harris' case in that state.
