In 2020, Selena Gomez bought Tom Petty's former 11,500-square-foot LA estate for $4.9 million; six years later she sold it for $5.4 million

American actress and singer Selena Gomez has sold her Encino, Los Angeles, home for $5.4 million, six years after buying the property for about $4.9 million.

Realtor.com reported the final sale price at $5.399 million, while Gomez bought the roughly 11,500-square-foot estate in 2020 for $4.895 million.

The Come & Get It singer listed the property for $6.49 million in May 2026. The home eventually sold on September 8 for about $1.1 million below its original asking price, according to ELLE Decor.


The property had a history of its own before Only Murders in the Building star became its owner. Rock musician Tom Petty and his first wife, Jane Benyo, had the home custom-built in 1989. They owned the property until 2017, according to Architectural Digest.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the Hands to Myself singer paid $4.895 million for the property in 2020. The three-story estate covered about 11,500 square feet and sat on nearly an acre.

The six-bedroom home included a recording studio, wine cellar, gym, yoga studio, massage room and swimming pool. The Los Angeles Times also reported that the property had a vocal booth and recording studio.

The house has a notable fire history. A 1987 fire destroyed almost everything in the Tudor-style mansion that originally stood on the property, except for the basement recording studio. Architectural Digest reported that the fire was deliberately set. Petty later rebuilt the three-story home, with the Los Angeles Times reporting that the rebuilt house was completed two years after the fire.

The property included several spaces that were connected to its original design, including a recording studio and vocal booth.

When Architectural Digest covered Gomez’s purchase in 2020, it highlighted the home’s skylit living room and floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, along with a music studio, media room and family room. The property also had a pool.

Wizards of Waverly Place star later made several changes to the house. Architectural Digest reported that she upgraded it with an in-home recording studio, massage room, gym, office and glam room.

Selena + Chef was filmed at the Encino home

The property was also used for Gomez’s cooking series, Selena + Chef. Architectural Digest reported that the home’s gourmet kitchen served as the backdrop for three seasons of the show. The kitchen had marble countertops, an island and a brick stove.

The house also had a primary suite with a spa-like bathroom, while the backyard included a pool and spa.
