In 2016, an entrepreneur invested $2,000 in a pet-hair lint roller; years later, his Amazon business generates $10 million
A lot of eCommerce businesses start with just one simple product and a small amount of money. Such is the story of Kyle Binder, founder of PetLovers, an international e-commerce brand in the pet hair removal niche. Binder started out selling a basic lint roller on Amazon with $2,000 and a student grant. The business has since grown into a company generating $10 million in annual revenue.

This week on How I AI, Binder discusses how he built the business and how artificial intelligence has become part of his approach to managing and scaling its operations.

Amazon Business $2,000 to $10 Million

For Binder, the entrepreneurial journey started with one Amazon listing and a small investment. What began with a lint roller eventually developed into PetLovers, an international e-commerce brand serving the pet hair removal niche.

Now it is a multi-country business with $10 million in sales a year. Binder has maintained a lean, data-driven approach while using technology to improve how different parts of the operation are managed.

His experience also provides a peek into how standard artificial intelligence can be combined with an existing e-commerce operation instead of simply being treated as a stand-alone technology.

Building PetLovers Cortex

One of the central topics discussed by Binder is PetLovers Cortex, a proprietary AI system he developed in-house.

The system, designed to serve the unique operational requirements of the company, is based on LLMs. Binder has connected it with tools and data sources used throughout the business, creating what he describes as a custom, context-aware automation engine.

The system integrates with platforms like ClickUp, Odoo and the Amazon Seller SP-API, with Binder able to embed AI into areas such as inventory, analytics and team workflows.
