Illinois Governor Election 2022: Know the candidates

Two candidates will be competing with J.B. Pritzker to become Illinois Governor in 2022 elections. Scott Schluter, a downstate diesel mechanic and an Air Force member, and Republican State Sen. Darren Bailey are competing with Pritzker, who was first elected in 2018.

Businessman and philanthropist J.B. Pritzker is running for re-election in the Illinois state legislature after defeating former governor Bruce Rauner in the general election of 2018.

The Illinois governor has bragged about his track record and performance leading US state through the COVID-19 pandemic while running for office. He has also claimed that his administration's policies have improved Illinois's economic standing, citing numerous credit rating upgrades and budgets which the Democrats have tried to implement in the recent years.


Darren Bailey, a former state representative elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2019, triumphed over a large field of Republican contenders to win the party's nomination in June after defeating Jesse Sullivan, a businessman and Richard Irvin, Mayor of Aurora in the primary. Bailey is from downstate Xenia and runs the Bailey Family Farm with his sons. In the neighbourhood, the family also looks after other enterprises.




Scott Schluter was born and raised in southern Illinois, attended Southeastern Illinois College, and served in the US Air Force for six years. He has promised to thoroughly revamp the state's tax code and criminal justice system. Scott Schluter wants to make the government more open in choosing which mitigations to implement, such as in the fight against COVID.
