Ilhan Omar calls Charlie Kirk ‘these people are full of s–t, mocks his killing and lashes out on his views

In the wake of conservative Charlie Kirk’s killing, Representative Ilhan Omar, a progressive voice in the US House, has mercilessly criticized Charlie Kirk’s political views and blamed him for escalating violence and hatred in the nation. Omar, herself a frequent target of threats due to her faith and outspoken views, contends that “not to allow this hateful rhetoric” is essential to prevent future tragedies of this nature.

Omar, a Somali-American refugee turned lawmaker, dismissed attempts by some to frame Kirk as a civil debater. In an interview with outlet Zeteo, she said, “There are a lot of people who are talking about him [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate. These people are full of s— and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness”.

She argued that Kirk minimized the significance of George Floyd’s death and opposed the recognition of Juneteenth, while promoting what she called his hateful rhetoric.


Omar continued, noting, “There is nothing more f—ed up than to pretend that his words and actions haven’t been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so”.

Forced to flee civil war as a child, Omar spent four years in a refugee camp in Kenya before relocating to the United States with her family in 1995, settling in Minnesota. She became a US citizen at seventeen and eventually began her political career in 2016 when she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, becoming the first Somali-American legislator in the US.

She then won election to Congress in 2018, when she became the first African refugee, one of the first two Muslim women, and the first woman of color to represent Minnesota in Congress. She quickly became a prominent progressive leader and founding member of “The Squad,” a group of liberal lawmakers known for their advocacy on social justice, climate change, healthcare, and immigration reform.

Omar’s presence in Congress helped prompt the repeal of a nearly two-century-old ban on head coverings in the House, enabling her to wear her hijab during sessions. She serves as deputy chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and holds memberships on major committees including the House Education and Workforce Committee and the Budget Committee.

Compounding her political controversy recently is a surge in scrutiny over her personal wealth. Official financial disclosures indicate that Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett, now have a combined net worth estimated at up to $30 million—after earlier public denials that she was a millionaire.

Authorities are still searching for the person who fatally shot Kirk on Wednesday while he was on stage at Utah Valley University.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has also urged people to help identify a person of interest as a video of the suspect is released by the authorities.
