Iga Swiatek survived a major scare in the Qatar Open, fighting back from a set down to defeat rising star Linda Noskova 6-7 (1), 6-4, 6-4 in a gruelling round of 16 encounter. With her victory, Swiatek extended her winning streak in Doha to 14 matches and remains the highest seed left in the competition.

The match tested Swiatek’s resilience as Noskova pushed the defending champion to the limit.

The Czech player dictated early exchanges, capitalising on Swiatek’s struggles in the opening-set tiebreak. But the Pole dug deep to turn the match around and book a spot in the quarter-finals against Elena Rybakina.

Tough battle on centre court

Swiatek, who had not dropped a set in Doha since 2022, saw that streak end as Noskova delivered a fearless performance. The 20-year-old Czech fought off multiple break points before dominating the first-set tiebreak 7-1, leaving the three-time defending champion under real pressure.

Despite the setback, Swiatek showed her championship mentality in the second set. After trading early breaks, she found another gear to edge ahead and level the match.

Iga Swiatek’s comeback

The deciding set saw momentum swing both ways. Swiatek stormed ahead 2-0, only for Noskova to win three consecutive games and take a 3-2 lead.

The world No. 2 appeared on shaky ground, particularly in the eighth game when she trailed 0-30 on serve.

But the five-time Grand Slam winner produced clutch tennis at crucial moments. She strung together six consecutive points, breaking Noskova with a powerful forehand to take control. Holding serve in the final game, she sealed the victory in just over two-and-a-half hours despite Noskova winning more overall points.
