Idaho University students' murder: What we know so far about investigation

Police responded to a report of an unconscious person on November 13, but when they reached the scene, they found the bodies of four Idaho University students from the second and third floor of the home. The deceased Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves were best friends and roommates; Xana Kernodle lived in the same house, and the fourth victim Ethan Chapin was dating her. The best friends returned home from a local pub in the wee hours of November 13. The couple was attending a party at Sigma Chi house and returned home around the same time. Various eyewitnesses and video footage from a live stream confirmed the timings. But there were certain gaps in the timeline of the couple.

The coroner's report said the victims were likely asleep when attacked and had multiple stab wounds. However, there was no evidence of sexual assault. The timing of the murder probably was after 3 AM. Two other roommates who lived in the house appeared to have slept through the stabbings, and neither of them was injured, and police believe they were not involved in the murders.




The Moscow police are welcoming any tips or lead from the public as an initial investigation hasn't been able to identify any suspects yet. They gathered a lot of physical evidence, with around 4000 photographs from the crime scene and interviewed various people to work out the details of the crime and apprehend the suspects.
