The announcement of Weinberg's departure came from Slipknot on November 5th, leaving fans and the music community taken aback.
The drummer, son of Max Weinberg from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, took to his Instagram Story and shared, “I was heartbroken and blindsided to receive the phone call that I did on the morning of November 5th; the news of which, most of you learned shortly after, however, I’ve been overwhelmed by — and truly grateful for — the outpouring of love and support I’ve received from this incredible community I consider to be my creative and artistic home.”
Slipknot's official statement acknowledged Weinberg's contribution to the band, noting his involvement in the last three albums, including the Grammy-winning ".5: The Gray Chapter" (2014), "We Are Not Your Kind" (2019), and "The End, So Far" (2022). The band emphasized their intent to evolve creatively and conveyed their well wishes for Weinberg's future endeavors.
Weinberg, in his statement, hinted at a future return to creating music, stating, "I look forward to creating loud, passionate, and heartfelt music that we enjoy together again." Despite the uncertainty, he expressed thankfulness for the connection with fans over the past decade.
Slipknot, formed in 1995, has not yet revealed who will fill Weinberg's drumming position. The band is scheduled to perform at the Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas on April 27, 2024, and Welcome to Rockville on May 12, 2024.
