The new film Hurry Up Tomorrow, inspired by The Weeknd’s album, is set to release in theaters on May 16. The psychological thriller features Abel Tesfaye, Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, plays the role of a musician who cannot sleep. His character meets a stranger. This encounter leads to unexpected events that change his life. The story explores his struggle and his journey through emotional and mental challenges.

Production Team

Trey Edward Shults directs the film. He has also worked on other projects like Krisha and Waves. Shults co-wrote the script with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss have produced the movie.


Tesfaye performed songs from his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow during the recent Grammy Awards. This was his first appearance at the event after a long break. He performed a mashup of two tracks from the album.

Album Delay

The album Hurry Up Tomorrow was initially set to release on January 24. A concert was planned at the Rose Bowl the next day. Due to wildfires in Los Angeles, both were postponed. The album eventually released on January 31. Tesfaye donated $1 million to support fire relief efforts.

Film’s Announcement

News of the film first appeared in 2023. At that time, it did not have a title. The idea came from Tesfaye. Shults started writing the screenplay soon after. The film’s soundtrack features music by Tesfaye and Daniel Lopatin.
