Residents in the US are likely to brace for eight to 13 hurricanes this year. Apart from these, there will be 17 to 25 tropical storms and among them four to seven are likely to intensify into major hurricanes with a wind speed of over 111 mph or Category 3 storms, as per predictions made by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), New York Post reported.

The number of hurricanes predicted for the current season is the highest in terms of NOAA's pre-season forecast, as per the report.

The North Atlantic hurricane season, which starts on June 1, is forecast to be 'extraordinary'. The hurricane season is the most active between August and October.
