In the wake of the ongoing drought, the water level at Lake Mead, US's largest reservoir, has nosedived enormously. It has unexpectedly resulted in the discovery of human remnants.

The National Park Service responded to reports of human remnants being found in the area at around 4:30 pm. It is the third time that human remnants have been found in this area.

The remnants were found at Swim Beach in the recreation area of Lake Mead. The Park Service officials said the medical examiner would help ascertain the cause of death. The details regarding the victim's identity or where the person may have died were not released by the officials.

The park rangers have reached the spot and had already set the perimeter to recover the remains, media reports said. Following two other discoveries in May, this is the third time in recent months that human remnants have been discovered in Lake Mead.

The present water levels at Lake Mead have been the lowest since April 1937, as per NASA. This is when Hoover Dam, known as Boulder Dam, harnessed the Colorado River for the first time.

A satellite image released by NASA last week showed how the Nevada-Arizona border reservoir is nearly unrecognisable compared to how it looked in the previous two decades.

The maximum capacity of the reservoir is 1,229 feet above sea level, but at 1,219.6 feet, it is considered full by the US Bureau of Reclamation. NASA also stated that the reservoir's maximum capacity was last reached in 1999.

Lake Mead was approximately 1,040 feet above sea level on Tuesday. Several parts of the West have been experiencing drought and wildfire due to the hot and dry weather this summer. Last week, climate change was also affecting a stretch of the Rio Grande that provides water to farmers and habitat to aquatic life. Its website also boasts attractive Joshua trees, slot canyons, and Milky Way-illuminated night skies. However, the park has also faced challenges, such as sunken boats being exposed after the water reached low levels.
