The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in southwest China's Guizhou Province is set to open to traffic on September 28, 2025 (Sunday) after more than three years of construction, local government announced on Wednesday (September 24, 2025). It will become the world's tallest bridge, according to reports, surpassing the Beipanjiang Bridge.

In the video that surfaced on social media, the incredible bridge can be seen. The 29-second clip showcases a stunning high-suspension bridge spanning a deep, rugged canyon with lush greenery below. As the video continues, the camera pans along the bridge, highlighting its huge height and sleek design, emphasizing the breathtaking views and impressive engineering.




Ahead of the opening, the bridge wowed with a rainbow waterfall. According to a video shared by China Xinhua News, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge created a breathtaking spectacle during water curtain tests.

Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge: Length and cost of the new bridge


According to Xinhua, the bridge is 2,890 meters long with a main span of 1,420 meters. It stands 625 meters above the river and is set to become both the world's tallest bridge and the world's largest-span bridge built in a mountainous area, the provincial government said.

The total designated construction period of the bridge was 42 months and the total cost in construction was two billion yuan (about $280 million), according to China Daily.

Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge: Major breakthroughs


The bridge has achieved several technological breakthroughs in its wind-resistance design and high-altitude construction.

The bridge obtained 21 authorized patents, and several of its technical achievements have been incorporated into national bridge construction standards, said Zhang Yin, head of the provincial transport department, as reported by Xinhua.

Guizhou is home to over 32,000 bridges that have been completed or are under construction, including the world's three tallest.
