It looks like Donald Trump has hit multiple home runs right on the day of his inauguration. During his speech after taking oath at the US Capitol, Trump announced that drug cartels that operate from offshore countries and do their illegal business in the US will be treated as enemies of the nation.

And with that, he announced a national emergency at the southern border and vowed to mark some drug cartels and gangs as 'foreign terrorist organizations'.

Military action on Mexican cartels?

These recent announcements could also come along with possible military action on these cartels, most of which are located in Mexico. which could become a major international issue in the coming days and disturb the geopolitical relations between both countries, suggest reports.

Drug cartels could be treated the same as ISIS

Moreover, the Justice Department has now considered classifying some cartel outfits as FTOs, including the likes of Venezuela-based gang Tren de Aragua and El Salvador-based MS-13, which means that any individual suspected of providing any form of support to these groups from within the US could be immediately arrested and charged.

The idea of designating drug cartels as terrorist outfits has been doing the rounds in Washington for years, but this is probably the first time something as critical has been announced by a US President, that too during his inauguration day.
