Spotify is pushing the boundaries of music streaming platforms by introducing an AI-powered DJ and a home screen that resembles social media.

Spotify is indeed one of the best choices to stream music, it competes with the likes of Apple Music. It had been quite some time since it last received a revamp and now it has decided to roll out several new features to keep the interface fresh and updated.

TikTok became popular for its vertical scrolling, while others like Instagram and YouTube took no time to work on the feature and incorporate it into their apps - and the rest is known to everyone and what we see today as - Reels and Shorts.

Fast forward to now, Spotify also announced a home screen revamp which more-or-less is built on the same architecture - but this time it's Spotify - and not a social media - a music streaming platform.

While social media platforms frequently borrow features from each other to stay competitive, it is relatively uncommon for music streaming platforms to integrate social media experiences into their apps.

In an effort to set itself apart from other music streaming platforms, Spotify has expanded its audio library to include audiobooks and podcasts. However, it is worth considering whether there is a point at which there may be "too much" content available to listen to.

Spotify's AI DJ uses OpenAI's AI tech

Spotify has introduced a personalized AI DJ that uses OpenAI's generative AI technology - yes, the same company behind DALL-E 2 and ChatGPT - to provide users with insightful facts about the music, artists, or genres they are listening to.

This addition builds on Spotify's existing use of AI and machine learning to curate super personalized song and playlist recommendations on the app's home screen and to power its search engine, which uses natural language processing to estimate a user's search queries.

How to use Spotify’s new AI DJ feature?

To access the AI DJ, users can navigate to the Music Feed on the Home tab in the Spotify app and play the DJ Card. If they are not satisfied with the selected genre, mood, or artist, they can tap the DJ button again to switch to something new. Overall, AI and machine learning have become integral to Spotify's success, according to the company's VP of engineering, Tony Jebara.
