Rudy Giuliani, the ex-mayor of New York City, is recovering in a New Hampshire hospital after being hurt badly in a car accident on Saturday night. The 81-year-old was hurt right after helping a woman who was in a domestic violence situation on Interstate 93.

What caused the accident?

New Hampshire State Police say the crash happened around 10 p.m. when Giuliani was a passenger in a Ford Bronco driven by Theodore Goodman from Michigan. Giuliani had just stopped to help a woman who had been the victim of domestic violence and waved him down.

According to Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s head of security, “Mayor Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was a victim of domestic violence prior to the accident. He rendered assistance and contacted 911, remaining on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety.”

Michael Ragusa said on X that “no one knew it was [Giuliani]” in the rental,” as quoted in a report.

He stayed with her until the police got there to make sure she was safe before going back to his car.

Lauren Kemp, 19, of Concord, was driving a Honda HR-V when it hit the Bronco from behind not long after he got back in the car. The crash pushed both cars into the median, as per a report by The New York Post.
