Kurtz is now just the 20th player in MLB history to achieve the four-homer feat. Notably, Arizona’s Eugenio Suárez also did it earlier this season on April 26, just three days after Kurtz made his major league debut.
Reflecting on the moment, Kurtz said, "It still really hasn't set in that it actually just happened. A game like that is stuff that you don't even dream about, because it doesn’t really happen. It’s just an unbelievable feeling. Glad we got the win, obviously. That performance was awesome."
Kurtz was raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where his baseball journey began early. At just 4 years old, his parents signed him up for T-ball. By the time he was 12, he had earned a spot on the USA 12-and-under national team.
For Kurtz’s parents, his MLB debut with the A’s against the Texas Rangers, at Sutter Health Park on April 24 earlier this year, marked the culmination of a journey more than 20 years in the making, reported The Sacramento Bee.
From the moment his two older brothers gave him a baseball at birth, it seemed he was destined for the sport. "He had a glove on his hand as soon as he could walk," The Sacramento Bee quoted his mother Marie as saying.
Each of Kurtz’s loved ones received what they described as a 'nonchalant' call or text from him. His girlfriend, Ally Eliea, said they were casually talking about her work when he quietly mentioned he'd been called up by the A’s.
