God of War Ragnarök fizzles out for a game about a world-ending conflagration of fire and blood. The conclusion of Santa Monica Studio's newest, which is now available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, is both rewarding and thematically sound. It also passes up an opportunity to be courageous, resulting in a creative misfire that, in my opinion, pulls Ragnarök back from greatness.

To be clear, we all liked the finale of God of War Ragnarök.
The last chapter is a whirlwind of twists and turns and lavish, if nonsensical, deus ex machina moments. Watching Kratos, Atreus, Freya, and their friends attack Asgard is epic in the classic sense, suitable to be read by some guy named Homer: a feeling heightened by composer Bear McCreary's ear-splitting orchestral arrangement. Switching between playable characters at critical times throughout the climactic fight, a microcosm of the shifting views that characterise Ragnarök's act breaks underlines the characters' journey throughout the game.
