Hong Kong Anthem: Google refuses to alter search results. Know what happened

Google made it clear that it won't change the search results for the Hong Kong anthem amid a row on where it appears in the search engine result pages.

Hong Kong put forward this demand to Google that it should bury the results for Glory to Hong Kong, a well-known protest song, and have the national anthem of China appear as the top search result instead. However, Google refused to do so, saying it does not manipulate its search results.

Hong Kong Anthem: The Details

“Glory to Hong Kong” is a popular protest song that was heard at a South Korean rugby game last month in place of “March of the Volunteers”, the national anthem of China. In early December, the song was also played at an awards ceremony held in Dubai for the weightlifter named Susanna Lin. This called for Hong Kong's demand to conceal this song's results on Google.

The Asia Rugby Association said that its employees downloaded the incorrect music after selecting the higher search result for the term Hong Kong national anthem online. Even the song title was displayed on the screen when the organizers played the Chinese national anthem at an earlier rugby game.
