Honda is recalling approximately 304,000 select 2023- 2024 Honda Accords and HR-V vehicles due to potentially faulty seat belts.

Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that "front seat belt pretensioners were assembled without a rivet securing the quick connector and wire plate." Notably, pretensioners are the devices that tighten seat belts and keep occupants in place upon impact, and their absence may increase injury risks during a crash.

"Seat belt pretensioners missing a rivet will not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a collision, increasing the risk of injury," added Honda.

According to the carmaker, as of November 16, Honda had received seven warranty claims but there had been no reports of injuries or deaths caused by the faulty pretensioners.

For those who want to know about which Hondas are being recalled. The carmaker is recalling the 2023 and 2024 model Honda Accords and the HR-Vs which were manufactured between October 4, 2022, to October 14, 2024. According to Hoda, it is expected that less than one percent of the potentially affected vehicles will need a replacement.

To check which Honda car has a recall, drivers will have to go to the Honda Recall Webpage and enter their Vehicle Identification Number to check whether their vehicle is affected. Moreover, the driver can also get information by calling (888) 234-2138. The carmaker is also mulling notifying owners individually through mail around January 8, 2024.

Honda said that irrespective of the make or model the owner can always enter their VIN on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website to know information about recalls.

If an owner's car is recalled, then the driver has to take the recalled car to an authorized Honda dealership for inspection and if needed for pretensioner replacement.

According to Honda, the authorized Honda dealerships will carry out inspection and repair of recalled vehicles free of cost. Those owners who have already paid for any repairs related to the recalled vehicles would be eligible for reimbursement.
