American Actress Susan Sarandon was on Wednesday dropped by her talent agency UTA following her controversial remarks on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.

The Thelma & Louise star, while addressing a pro-Palestine rally in New York on Friday, lambasted at the Jewish community, saying they were "getting a taste of how it feels to be Muslim in America”.

“There are a lot of people that are afraid, that are afraid of being Jewish at this time. Jews in America are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence," the 77-year-old actress said at the rally.

Earlier, reacting to Sarandon's remarks, Israeli Mission to the UN's previous head of speechwriting issued a statement. “When Susan Sarandon said that Jews ‘are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country’ she was saying that American Jews have it coming — that we don’t deserve to live free from harassment and assault.

Following Hamas' attack on Israeli civilians on Oct. 7 and the subsequent Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, there has been a surge in reported incidents of both anti-Muslim and anti-Jewish bias in the U.S., as reported by ABC News. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) revealed on Oct. 24 that incidents of anti-semitic harassment, vandalism, and assault increased by 388 percent compared to the same period last year, as per CNN.

According to a Nov. 9 statement from The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a diverse range of Americans, including students, professionals, protestors, and mosques, reported instances of anti-Muslim and anti-Arab bias in the month following the escalation of violence.

FBI Assistant Director of Partner Engagement Robert J. Contee III stated in late October that there has been a noticeable increase in threats across the country, specifically targeting Jewish people and individuals from the Muslim community, as reported by the Washington Post.
