Sean “Diddy” Combs, the hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur, has been sentenced to 50 months in federal prison, just over four years, and fined $500,000 after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the federal Mann Act.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Arun Subramanian emphasized the severity and duration of Combs’ crimes. “The conduct occurred for over a decade and with tremendous frequency over that time period,” the judge said. “Why did it happen that long? Because you had the power and the resources to keep it going. And because you weren’t caught.”

Subramanian added that Combs’ actions “irreparably harmed two women,” who continue to feel the effects of his abuse today. He warned that the court is “not assured” that similar crimes would not occur again if Combs were released, underscoring the need for a substantial sentence. Subramanian said Combs’ behavior was “physical, emotional, and psychological,” driving both women to thoughts of ending their lives.

“This was subjugation, and it drove both Ms. Ventura and Jane to thoughts of ending their lives. That is the reality of what happened,” Subramanian said.

“A history of good works can not erase the power and control you had over the women you professed to love dearly. You abused them physically, emotionally and psychologically and you used that to get your way,” he said.

The 50-month prison term and $500,000 fine reflect the judge’s attempt to balance the severity of the crimes with mitigating factors, such as Combs’ family involvement and community contributions.
