Hidden corridor discovered in Pyramid of Giza using modern-day technology. Check details

The detection of the hidden corridor near the Great Pyramid of Giza was accomplished using cosmic-ray muon radiography, a scientific technique that involves the use of subatomic particles known as muons to create images of dense objects.

Egyptian antiquities officials have found a hidden corridor, about nine meters long, near the main entrance of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which is believed to reveal additional discoveries.

Non-invasive technologies, such as infrared thermography, 3D simulations, and cosmic-ray imaging, have been used since 2015 to examine the pyramid's interior.

The corridor was discovered using cosmic-ray muon radiography, and scientists were able to capture images of it by inserting a 6mm-thick endoscope through a small joint in the pyramid's stones.

According to an article in the scientific journal Nature on Thursday, the recently found hidden corridor near the Great Pyramid of Giza could provide valuable insights into the pyramid's construction and shed light on the purpose of a gabled limestone structure located in front of the corridor.

The pyramid, which was built during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, also known as Cheops, around 2560 BC, was intended to serve as a grand tomb.

Inside the main chamber of the Great Pyramid lies a granite coffer that is far too large to have fit down the narrow passageway at the entrance.

This realisation has led historians and archaeological to believe that the Great Pyramid was built around the coffer rather than it being brought inside.

In 2017, researchers from the Scan Pyramids project disclosed the detection of a void within the pyramid, which was at least 30 meters in length. This was the first significant inner structure to be found since the 19th century.
