The actress Ruth Madoc died at 79, and much too soon after, she suffered a fall early in the week and had to undergo surgery. Phil Belfield, her agent, said she was a talented person adored by many for her acting. The role of Gladys Pugh in the comedy of the 1980s “Hi-de-Hi”, about a holiday camp in 1950, was simply superb and touched many people. Her agent was distraught at the loss of their dear Ruth and was sure she would be missed by many. The actress, according to him, was a legend in British entertainment who had died far too soon.
She was forced to cancel her participation in the British pantomime “Aladdin” that was to be held at the Princess Theatre in Torquay, Devon.
Screenplay writer Russell T Davies said she was a gorgeous woman whom people loved as Gladys Pugh and who could forget her unforgettable role as Fruma Sarah in “Fiddler on the Roof (1971). She was a person who loved acting, the actors and the stories that did this business. This was posted by the writer on his Instagram post as a tribute.
