'Hero Pay': Frontline workers in Minnesota to start getting payment from this week. Read to know amount

Over one million frontline workers in Minnesota will begin receiving nearly $500 payments this week as 'Hero Pay', according to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

An official statement by the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, stated that payments of $487.45 as 'Hero Pay' will start going out to 1,025,655 Minnesota frontline workers to recognize their work during the pandemic. The state officials will begin processing the payments on Wednesday and continue through the fall.


The governor said that frontline workers are an important part of the fabric of Minnesota, and they helped the state continue to function through the pandemic. They are receiving $487.45 as a token of recognition from the state, and the amount has been capped at $500 million.



Mode of Payment for 'Hero Pay'

The payment will only be made to approved applicants. Workers, who choose the Automated Clearing House (ACH) direct deposit option, will receive the funds within 7 to 10 business days. Frontline workers, who choose to receive the payment on their debit cards, will receive the amount in 3 to 4 weeks.

The number of applicants

The Minnesota Legislature approved the bonus pay or 'Hero Pay', and it was initially expected that there would be only 667,000 applicants, making the check size $750. The application window was open from June 8 to July 22, and nearly 1.2 million people applied; about 200,000 applications were denied.


The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry will release a report on the payments no later than 90 days after the payment processing ends.
