Following the distressing shooting incident at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the individuals affected by this heartbreaking event have been identified. Among those lost were esteemed members of the academic community: Cha Jan Chang, 64, affectionately known as Jerry, and Patricia Navarro Velez, 39, an assistant professor. Chang, dedicated to his role as a university professor, tragically succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while Velez fell victim to multiple gunshots.

The third victim's identity remains private, respecting the process of notifying their next of kin. Similarly, a visiting professor, one of the wounded, continues to battle for their life in the hospital, their condition recently downgraded to critical.

The perpetrator, identified as 67-year-old Anthony Polito, had persistently sought a professorial position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, facing rejection multiple times. Armed with a Taurus 9 mm handgun and loaded magazines, Polito carried out the attack, leading to a fatal confrontation with law enforcement officers.

This tragic incident unfolded within Beam Hall, where victims were discovered across different floors. Although the wounded victim is believed to have been shot on the fifth floor, they managed to make their way to safety on the ground floor before receiving medical attention.

As authorities continue their investigations, details about the shooter's past actions have surfaced. Previous encounters with the law, including a criminal record, and the sending of letters to university personnel on the day of the shooting have raised questions. However, the contents of these letters remain undisclosed.

A search conducted at the shooter's residence revealed various items, including indications of financial distress, ammunition resembling that used in the shooting, and a list of individuals associated with UNLV and Eastern Carolina University. Notably, none of the victims were found on this list, indicating a disturbing randomness to the attack.
