King Charles III had a busy schedule and often worked until late into the night. The new King is known to skip lunch and not insist on fancy meals. King Charles's former press secretary, Julian Payne, has shared an insight into the new King's life from the time when he was an heir.

A structured routine

The King's household is run on military lines, and plans are finalised several days in advance. A team of advisers and staff are responsible for the daily management of the royal household.

King's day begins with the news headlines on the radio. Breakfast consists of fruit salad (seasonal fruits) and some seeds, rounded off with tea. Despite rumours of the egg being a firm favourite of the King, Julian has never seen any egg items on King Charles's table.

He generally spends the evenings doing paperwork that goes past midnight often. Finally, the King breaks for dinner at 8.30 pm.

The King's daily engagements usually are planned twice a year and are preserved in a diary. However, despite the daily programmes, Julian Payne adds that the King likes talking to people, which often upsets carefully planned events.

Upcountry visits

The King has to travel frequently. Besides invitational programmes for his charities, he has to participate in military events and perform royal duties like parliament-related work.
