‘Hellbound’ star Yoo Ah-in gets probed by police for alleged use of illegal propofol

Yoo Ah-in, a South Korean actor, has been barred from traveling abroad and is the subject of an investigation into possible illicit usage of an anesthetic medication. This has sparked some rumors about the fate of his next projects, including the dark fantasy series Hellbound and the Netflix thriller The Match.

In response to a request for comment from Deadline, a Netflix representative stated, "We have heard through media sources that the investigation is presently underway, and are now looking into the issue."

Yoo is accused of routinely violating the Narcotics Control Act by using the sleep-inducing medication propofol for non-medical purposes, The Korea Times reported. The actor was reportedly questioned on Monday by the narcotics investigation section of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, according to Yonhap.


Yoo has been "faithfully working with the inquiry and will explain in detail about the serious circumstances," the actor's management organization, United Arts Agency, said in a statement to the local press following the revelation.


The Match is a full-length movie starring Yoo and Lee Byung-hun about great Go board game players. It was anticipated to be launched in the first part of this year, according to reports. Last September, a Netflix Tudum event in Korea featured a first peek at Hellbound Season 2. The eerie series' debut season, which follows a gang of otherworldly creatures that emerge out of nowhere to send humans to hell, was a success for the streamer in 2021. Other works by Yoo include the sci-fi series Goodbye Earth and the film Hi.5.
