In a report submitted in 2021, the Center for Climate Integrity said that $40 billion is needed to install proper cooling systems in schools. What will they do if temperatures go further up?

61 million people under heat advisories
As more than 61 million people are under the heat advisories issued across the country, many schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan will either close the school or dismiss students early. Adding to the woes, some schools in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin have no adequate cooling system and they have no option but to suspend classes for the week.
No adequate cooling systems
The rising temperatures and scorching weather conditions across the US have also raised certain issues. In its report submitted in 2021, the Center for Climate Integrity said that more than 13,700 K-12 public schools were without the necessary cooling systems and they will need about $40billion to set up these facilities. Besides, more than 13,000 additional schools needed additional cooling systems considering the rise in the temperatures and an additional expense of $ 44 billion is required.
No money for the cooling system
Reacting to the decision to close down the schools, Heritage Christian Academy Superintendent Sharla Elton told journalists that it is always a difficult decision, but sometimes it is unavoidable. As Governor Tony Evers greeted Milwaukee students on their first day of school on Tuesday, the representatives of the school administrations expressed disappointment over the lack of funds to install the cooling systems in schools at a time when the temperatures are reaching new heights. Milwaukee School Board Vice President Jilly Gokalgandhi said that it was a challenge and their hands were tied. Earlier, some students were closed in 2021 due to increased temperatures.
