HBO is making a new Harry Potter TV series, set to air in 2027, based on J.K. Rowling’s books. Filming is happening at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK, the same place where the original movies were made. Each season will cover one of the seven Harry Potter books, and Season 1 filming will continue until spring 2026. Season 2 starts a few months later.

Dominic McLaughlin, 11, will play Harry Potter, selected from over 30,000 actors. This is his first major TV role. Arabella Stanton, 11, is Hermione Granger, also her first on-screen role, previously acted in Matilda on the West End. Alastair Stout plays Ron Weasley, youngest son of the Weasley family. This is his first acting role, as per reports.

New Weasley kids revealed

HBO just revealed the new Weasley children. The cast includes Tristan and Gabriel Harland as Fred and George Weasley, Ruari Spooner as Percy, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny. A photo of the Weasley siblings with Alastair Stout as Ron was shared on Instagram and is going viral.

Fans love the on-screen selfie. The Weasley family’s second eldest son, Charlie, is currently in Romania studying dragons and will join the shoot later. Bill Weasley’s actor has not been announced yet, as reported by Variety.

Harry Potter series debut and production details

The new Harry Potter series will come out in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max. Season 1 filming continues until spring 2026, with Season 2 starting a few months later. Katherine Parkinson plays Molly Weasley, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, and Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, as per Yahoo Entertainment.

Showrunners and Creators Behind the Series

Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner and writer, and Mark Mylod will direct several episodes. Both are also executive producers with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. Original cast members are not involved. Daniel Radcliffe supports the reboot but won’t participate.

J.K. Rowling is involved in the series development and casting decisions. HBO says she will help preserve the books’ integrity. The new series is expected to be a long-term project, possibly lasting 10 years, as per reports.
