US president Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, once central figures in Donald Trump’s administration, are now distancing themselves from him in the second term, as per a report.

Ivanka and Jared denied Trump's request

According to a new book by author Michael Wolff, the couple declined to sign a statement defending Trump against accusations of antisemitism after his handling of the 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel drew controversy, reported The Guardian.

Wolff's book, "All or Nothing: How Trump Recaptured America" revealed a critical moment when Trump sought the aid of his Jewish daughter and son-in-law, requesting that they come forward and endorse him publicly in the face of increasing alarm regarding his language that made him sound antisemitic.

Kushner and Ivanka declined his request, according to reports. Kushner said, “No, Ivanka and I aren’t going to do that. We’re not going to go and put our names on something and get in the middle of things. That’s just not what we’re going to do this time,” as quoted by The Guardian.

The couple's shift from their previous role in Trump administration

This is a sharp departure from the couple's earlier status as top advisers to Trump in his first term, when they were major players in his administration, as per the report. Since the January 6 Capitol riot and Trump's failed attempts to upend the 2020 election outcome, Ivanka and Jared have maintained a lower profile, avoiding political attention, reported The Guardian.

Trump's allies push back against Wolff’s claims

While Trump's allies have rejected Wolff's version, terming his work as fiction. White House’s communications director Steven Cheung, said that “Michael Wolff is a lying sack of shit and has been proven to be a fraud," as quoted by the report.

According to Cheung, Wolff routinely fabricates stories originating from "his sick and warped imagination, only possible because he has a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain,” The Guardian quoted.
