Tesla has changed how it's marketing the Cybertruck, away from its initial high-tech, science fiction persona and toward a more common, utilitarian one, as per a report.


Tesla's Cybertruck Moves from Sci-Fi Fantasy to Everyday Utility

The EV maker has now featured its Cybertruck as a more traditional pick-up truck style, as per Business Insider. Tesla has even reworked the Cybertruck's page on its official website, according to the report.

The automaker's website now showcases pictures of the Cybertruck hauling construction material and a trailer, family outings, along with visuals of the pick-up on rugged terrains, basically all activities that are expected out of a pick-up truck, as per Business Insider.


While, previously, the Cybertruck's marketing strategy, portrayed the Cybertruck as a futuristic vehicle with images of other planets like Mars, according to the report. Business Insider also highlighted how Tesla has moved to position the Cybertruck to be "less DeLorean, more Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) F-150," as per the report.

Reality Check From the Sales Floor

However, a Tesla salesperson on anonymity pointed out that, Tesla's change in its marketing approach may be difficult to put into practice, according to Business Insider. The Tesla salesperson said, "Pitching it to truck people is more about the functionality,” as quoted in the report.

While, the EV maker's salesperson also told about how traditional truck customers ask about the Cybertruck's towing capabilities and want to know how much it can haul in the bed, reported Business Insider. As per the report, Tesla's Cybertrucks have been criticized for a lack of ruggedness in the past.

Tesla's move comes after the company recently released a cheaper version of the Cybertruck priced at $62,490 with the Federal EV credit, according to Business Insider.
