Harvard releases photos of suspects linked to ‘internal’ explosion in medical campus

The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) has released photos of two suspects believed to be connected to an intentional explosion that occurred early Saturday morning at the university’s medical campus, according to a report by WCVB.Police said the explosion took place around 2:48 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Goldenson Building at 220 Longwood Ave., part of Harvard’s Longwood medical campus. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the blast.A responding officer reportedly saw two individuals fleeing the scene and attempted to stop them but was unsuccessful, police said.


A Harvard University spokesperson has released surveillance images showing the two individuals sought in connection with the explosion. The photos, shared by HUPD, accessed by the outlet, depict the suspects wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks.


According to WCVB, the Boston Fire Department Arson Unit made an initial assessment determining the explosion to be intentional. Boston Police officers conducted a thorough sweep of the building and found no additional explosive devices.

The FBI, along with other local and federal law enforcement agencies, is assisting HUPD in the ongoing investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Harvard detective bureau at 617-495-1796.

Earlier police suspected the explosion inside a building on the Harvard Medical School campus in Boston appears to have been an intentional act. No injuries have been reported from the explosion.

The Goldenson Building was built in 1906, according to Harvard University Planning and Design. The HMS Quad Lawn is surrounded by a number of Harvard buildings on the Boston campus.
