Harry Ford delivers walk-off sac fly as Mariners edge Angels in extras

Pinch hitter Harry Ford delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 12th inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night. Ford, making just his fourth big-league appearance, plated Jorge Polanco with his first career RBI to seal Seattle’s sixth straight win, pulling the Mariners (79-68) into a tie with Houston Astros atop the AL West.


According to MLB, Seattle has now won 17 of its past 20 games at T-Mobile Park, dating back to the trade deadline.


The Angels (69-78) briefly grabbed a 6-5 lead in the top of the 12th on Matthew Lugo’s RBI single. In the bottom half, Polanco doubled home the tying run, Victor Robles dropped down a bunt single to load the bases, and Ford’s fly ball to right ended it. Jose Castillo (2-2) earned the win, while Sammy Peralta (0-1) took the loss.


Seattle also tied the game in the 11th when J.P. Crawford singled after Taylor Ward had given the Angels a short-lived lead. The Mariners jumped ahead 4-0 in the second inning on RBI doubles from Crawford and Julio Rodríguez.

Mike Trout ended a 125-plate-appearance homerless streak with his 399th career home run, while Logan Davidson hit his first to spark Los Angeles. The Angels also scored twice in the fourth on a Chris Taylor sacrifice fly and a Luis Rengifo groundout.

Mariners starter Bryce Miller struck out a career-high 11 over 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. Angels starter Jose Soriano lasted four innings, giving up four runs - three earned - on five hits and three walks.
