Harris's lead over Trump among Americans under 45 is growing, says a new poll

Among voters under 45, Vice President Kamala Harris has a sizable lead over Donald Trump of 22 percentage points. Harris leads marginally overall, but Trump does better among independents and older voters.

A new poll indicates that Vice President Harris now leads former President Trump by the largest margin among Americans under 45, marking the largest gap since she was nominated by the Democratic Party.

According to a recent Economist poll, which was released on Wednesday, among adults 45 and younger, Harris leads Trump by 22 percentage points or 56 to 34%. With voters 65 and older, Trump outperformed Harris, despite trailing the younger electorate. With 56% of the vote to Harris's 39%, the former president led Harris in support.

Among voters between the ages of 30 and 44, the vice president had the same advantage, receiving 53% of the vote to Trump's 36%. There was a slight advantage for the Democratic candidate among registered voters. With a margin of error of one percentage point, Harris led Trump with 47% of the vote to 45% for Trump. According to the poll, the former president had a nearly double-digit lead among independents, with 46% of them endorsing him compared to 37% for Harris.

The poll found that the former president led by 1 percentage point among men and Harris had a 4-point advantage among women, both of which were smaller leads than in previous weeks. When it came to veterans and active military personnel who were registered to vote, Trump had a 23-point advantage (59% to 36%). Republicans support this group more than Democrats do, according to the poll, by 41% to 28%.
