Who is Hamish Harding?
58-year-old Hamish Harding is the chairman of Action Aviation, which is an aircraft firm. Previously, he has also flown to space and holds at least three Guinness World Records. For him, the trip to witness the wreckage of the Titanic sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean was only the latest adventure in his string of past such unique experiences.
Hamish Harding is known to have traveled to the South Pole multiple times including in 2016 when he accompanied former astronaut Buzz Aldrin. In that trip, Aldrin also became the oldest person ever to reach the South Pole at the age of 86. In 2022, he went to space on board Blue Origin’s fifth human-crewed flight. One of the three Guinness World Records achieved by him include the longest time spent at full ocean depth during a dive to the deepest part of Mariana Trench.
Prior to boarding Titan, Hardings shared on social media that the ship had set off from St John’s in Newfoundland, Canada to reach the site of Titanic wreckage where all five people were scheduled to board the submersible which would further go down in the ocean.

While the crucial search for Titan is underway, Hamish Harding along with Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet, OceanGate chief executive Stockton Rush are also missing. Titan lost contact about an hour and 45 minutes after its dive into the mid-Atlantic on Sunday.
