Greenland is not for sale: Denmark PM dials Donald Trump, sends tough message on 'independence'
US President-elect Donald Trump talked tough about Greenland and now Denmark's prime minister has retorted.

In a statement, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's office said that she had spoken to Trump in a telephone call, where she referred to Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede's statement "that Greenland is not for sale, and the Prime Minister declared that it is up to Greenland itself to decide on independence," AFP reported.
Trump, who takes office on January 20, said last week that the US control of Greenland was an "absolute necessity" and did not rule out using military or economic action such as tariffs against Denmark to make it happen.
"In the conversation, the prime minister referred to the statements of the Chairman of the Greenlandic Parliament, Mute B. Egede, that Greenland is not for sale," Frederiksen's office said in a statement.
Frederiksen also emphasized the importance of strengthening security in the Arctic and that Denmark was open to taking a greater responsibility, it added.
