Great Pyramid Mystery Solved? New Thermal Scans Reveal The 'Secret' Ramp Used To Move The Stones
The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the structures that have been extensively investigated by historians; nevertheless, one issue has remained unanswered. How did millions of stone blocks find their places with such accuracy? A study recently published in the journal npj Heritage Science suggests that an innovative solution has emerged: the use of a set of integrated edge ramps. This new concept, based on an integrated network of ramps placed alongside the edges of the pyramid, has attempted to clarify how stones could have been efficiently carried without compromising the integrity of the structure.

The theory might seem plausible at first glance. Imaging studies of the pyramid have shown some internal characteristics and even voids inside the structure, prompting researchers to reconsider their construction hypotheses. However, this study should not be taken as confirmation but rather as a testable hypothesis.

What Has Imaging Actually Revealed?

Through the use of more advanced techniques such as muography and electrical resistivity tomography, spaces inside the pyramid that were not visible to the naked eye have been found. It is evident from the results obtained by these imaging techniques that the pyramid consists of components that cannot be seen from the outside. For instance, it has been established that there is a corridor and space known as the North Face Corridor above the entrance.

On the other hand, finding out whether there is a space does not necessarily mean that you find out what the purpose of that space was. The corridor may have been created for any reason, either for structural or building purposes. The link between these two components is hypothetical.

This Mystery Is Still Open

What makes the theory of ramps attractive is its practical nature. It is clear that the movement of huge stone blocks would require well-defined and safe routes as well as appropriate slopes and a sufficient number of workers. Therefore, a system of ramps could provide more effective solutions than the use of a single huge ramp.

However, different theories still co-exist with that of ramps. In particular, some researchers believe that there were some types of internal ramps used by ancient Egyptians, and others consider other possibilities for lifting stones. The existence of multiple explanations shows that this issue cannot be regarded as closed.
