The anticipation for the London Marathon 2024 is reaching new heights as a staggering 500,000 participants have defied the odds and secured coveted spots through the ballot. For those fortunate enough to be among the chosen few, the mixture of excitement and nerves is palpable.

Now, Sean Willers, who happens to be an online fitness and nutrition coach, and founder, Willers Fitness told ‘Metro’ about some simple steps to keep things going.

The first step is to invest in a reliable pair of trainers. You'll want something that's comfortable and supportive, as you'll be putting them through a lot of wear and tear.

Once you have your trainers, it's time to start thinking about your training plan. Willers suggested a minimum training period of approximately 16 weeks. During this time, you'll want to incorporate long runs, speed workouts, tempo runs and rest days into your regimen. Completing at least one 20-mile run before the race is also advised.

In addition to training, it's also important to take care of your body. This includes eating a healthy diet, staying hydrated and getting enough sleep. You may also want to consider strength training to help prevent injuries.
