"Fuzzy was one of a kind," said USGA CEO Mike Whan. "We are grateful for all he gave to golf. I hope we can all remember his unmistakable joy. The USGA is sending our deepest condolences to his family and friends."

The controversy around his racial comment
His life was filled with controversies too, most notably during the 1997 Masters, when Woods was marching toward the most dominant win in Augusta National history. Zoeller, praising the young star’s performance in a CNN interview, ended his remarks with a racially insensitive joke:
“So, you know what you guys do when he gets in here? You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not serve fried chicken next year. Got it?” As he walked away, he added, “Or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve.”
The comments ignited widespread outrage and trailed him for the rest of his career. Reflecting on the episode in a 2008 Golf Digest piece, Zoeller wrote, “I’ve cried many times. I’ve apologized countless times for words said in jest that just aren’t a reflection of who I am. I have hundreds of friends, including people of color, who will attest to that. Still, I’ve come to terms with the fact that this incident will never, ever go away.”
Zoeller finished his career with 19 global victories and competed on three Ryder Cup teams.
