Golden retrievers or labradors: Planning to adopt a dog? Check which breed will be suitable for you
Dogs have been one of the most popular pet species around the world. However, not every pet breed is suitable for everyone. Based on your requirements, house environment, and time available, experts suggest which dog breed would suit you more.

While it is well-known that pet dogs have a largely positive influence on a person's mood, the suggestion that one needs to bear in mind is that they should avoid choosing a breed whose emotional and physical needs cannot be accommodated in their homes and in their daily routines.
Here are some of the dog breeds that you might want to consider:
Golden retriever
Dr Carly Fox, a senior veterinarian at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, opines that golden retrievers are "the quintessential dog". Speaking to American news magazine Newsweek, she highlighted the relative ease with which golden retrievers adapt to various lifestyles. Dr Fox, who specialises in emergency veterinarian care, also noted the ideal conditions that a golden retriever should be raised in.These include an hour or two of daily exercise and multiple avenues that offer adequate mental stimulation for the canines. She, however, also drew attention towards the likelihood of overweight golden retrievers developing orthopedic issues.

Labrador retrievers and poodles
Like golden retrievers, some other breeds are also known for being easily adaptable. Dr Todd East, veterinary affairs director at the Royal Canin North America, believes that labrador retrievers and poodles too fit the bill. He told Newsweek that a labrador retriever's "drive to please is unmatched" and this quality makes them among the most adaptable dog breeds.More active breeds
Prospective dog parents who wish to adopt a highly active dog must first make sure that their own lifestyle aligns with what they seek in a canine. A person who leads an active lifestyle may consider breeds like Border Collies, Vizslas, and Australian Shepherds, according to Dr Ashly Smith, veterinarian at Small Door Veterinary. However, the expert warned about behavioral issues that these dogs may develop in the absence of adequate exercise. She told Newsweek that these dogs were originally bred for activities like herding or hunting.
