Golden Globes 2023: ‘The Banshees Of Inisherin’ and ‘The Fabelmans’ receive top film honours

At Golden Globes’ comeback ceremony, while ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ won three major prizes, ‘The Fabelmans’ was also one of the major winners. A year after going on mute, Golden Globes returned this year to the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles

Becoming one of the major winners at 2023 Golden Globes Awards, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ won best comedy or musical film and best screenplay. The film’s star, Irish actor Colin Farrell also took home the award for best comedy actor. In his acceptance speech, Farrell said that he never expect his films to “find an audience”. However, he continued, that when they do it’s “shocking” for him.

‘The Fabelmans’ which is Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical film, scooped the award for best drama film, one of the significant honours at the Golden Globes.



Meanwhile, in television categories, the major names were Abbott Elementary, Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon and The White Lotus. Remarkably, most of the awards were collected in person even though there was speculation that most celebrities would stay away from this year’s Golden Globes awards ceremony.

The award ceremony on Tuesday came in the backdrop of criticism drawn by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) after the boy was accused of lacking diversity, two years ago.

‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ is set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland and it revolves around two friends who fall out as one of them decides to abruptly end their companionship. The cast includes Farrell and Brendan Gleeson who worked with director Martin McDonagh.
