House of the Dragon’ has bagged the award for Best Drama Series at Global Globe Awards 2023. Milly Alcock and Emma D'arcy, the show's stars, joined director Miguel Sapochnik on stage at the Golden Globes on Tuesday to accept the award.

“As you can tell, we didn’t think we were going to win so I didn’t get ready,” Sapochnik told the media. “This is amazing. I’ve got to say Severance is awesome. I love that show. If I could have made ‘House of the Dragon’ like Severance, it would definitely have been a bit weird.”

“Can there be a round of applause for these amazing actors?” said Sapochnik, pointing at D’arcy and Alcock. “We had an amazing cast, absolutely stunning. I don’t know what else to say as they were just great.”

Emma D'Arcy, who starred in ‘House of the Dragon’, was nominated for Best Actress in a Dramatic Television Series.

With the victory, ‘House of the Dragon’ surpassed Game of Thrones, which despite five nominations during its run, never took home the Best Drama Series award.

Just a few months after the end of Game of Thrones, in October 2019, House of the Dragon was first officially announced. The 2018 novel Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, a companion to the main A Song of Ice and Fire series, served as the basis for the miniseries, which focuses on the House of Targaryen. These events take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

The second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ has been confirmed. The premiere date has still not been announced.

The show won the award for Best Drama TV Series after beating Netflix’s The Crown, Apple TV+’s Severance, AMC’s Better Call Saul and Netflix’s Ozark.
