"Golden," by Jung Kook, makes its No. 1 debut on the Top Album Sales Chart

Golden, Jung Kook's debut solo album makes it to the top of Billboard's Top Album Sales chart. After the ending week of Nov 9, the album sold almost 164,800 copies in the United States.

The late Jimmy Buffett's new studio album Equal Strain On All Parts debuts at No. 3 on the new Top Album Sales chart, while Jason Aldean's most recent release, Highway Desperado, begins at No. 6 on the same chart.

The best-selling albums of the week are ranked by Billboard's Top Album Sales list using just conventional album sales data. The chart's history began on May 25, 1991, the first week that Billboard started compiling charts using electronically tracked piece count data from SoundScan, which is currently Luminate.


From the list of Dec. 6, 2014, the Billboard 200 albums chart used just pure album sales as its measurement. From that point on, the chart adopted a methodology that combines album sales with track-equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units.

Out of the 164,800 copies of Golden that were sold, 128,500 were sold physically (all CD sales), and 36,500 were downloaded digitally. Golden was released in sixteen collectible CD editions, each with a different cover and packaging with varying goodies (some randomly) inside. This was the case with many significant K-pop albums.

1989 (Taylor's Version), which debuted at No. 1 the week before, falls to No. 2 with 122,000 copies sold (down 91%) in comparison.
