Golden Bachelorette controversy: Suitor Gil Ramirez to be edited out of the show | Here’s why
In the premiere episode, Ramirez had been given a rose by the show's lead, Joan Vassos.

The 60-year-old educator from Mission Viejo, California, who appeared as a suitor on ABC's senior reality dating show, is now facing consequences after legal documents surfaced detailing accusations from a former romantic partner, as per a report by USA Today.
During the premiere episode, Ramirez, who had received a rose from the show's lead, Joan Vassos, will now see his screen time drastically reduced due to the allegations. The situation has raised questions about the show's vetting process and the decision-making behind Ramirez's initial inclusion.
Restraining Order Filed Against Ramirez
The restraining order was granted by the Superior Court of California following claims made by a 62-year-old woman who had previously dated Ramirez.According to court documents mentioned in the USA Today report, the woman accused Ramirez of harassment and emotional abuse. In the request for the temporary restraining order, the woman detailed that despite her asking Ramirez to cease contact, he allegedly continued to reach out persistently. She claimed that Ramirez made repeated, unwanted contact through phone calls, texts, and video messages — as many as 25 times daily.
In addition to the frequent attempts at communication, the woman stated that Ramirez also showed up at places she frequented, confronting her daily. The emotional abuse reportedly began in May and escalated within weeks, prompting her to take legal action. The restraining order requested that Ramirez stay away from the woman’s home, workplace, car, and children’s school.
Case Dismissed in Court
The temporary restraining order was eventually dismissed on July 24 during a court hearing. According to records, the dismissal was due to a "lack of prosecution."Despite this outcome, the initial filing against Ramirez has had a significant impact on his involvement in Golden Bachelorette.
ABC's Response and Decision
A source quoted by USA Today said that ABC and the show's producers had only recently become aware of the legal situation involving Ramirez. The timing of the restraining order filing, which occurred shortly after the show's thorough vetting process but before production began, left the producers in a challenging position."As a result of this newly confirmed information, we have further edited (Ramirez's) already limited screen time and minimized him in promotional assets moving forward," the source said. ABC has since taken steps to reduce his presence in the series, ensuring that his role is kept to a minimum.
